About the artwork
The Alchemist explores the process of becoming more fully yourself while navigating a rapidly changing world.
At the centre of the artwork is a fragmented figure positioned between two worlds. One draws from nature, craftsmanship and organic growth. The other transforms into technological structures and machine-like systems.
Rather than choosing between them, the figure uses the tension to look deeper within.
The original artwork was created over nearly three months of building up layers of texture, then gilded with 24-carat gold leaf.
The result is a work that invites reflection on value, self-authorship and the aspects of being human that cannot be quantified.
This limited edition is produced in collaboration with leading British printmakers using a combination of silkscreen printing, relief printing and hand-applied imitation gold leaf, recreating the texture and reflective qualities of the original artwork.
